Before and After

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Another big day behind us.  Evie did great!  She was most entertaining about 10 minutes after receiving the tranquilizer before they took her for surgery.  Oblivious to the fact that it was in the wee hours of the morning, after taking her “happy juice”, she was all smiles and started waving and talking to techs and nurses.  Daddy thought she was so funny that he had to get it on video.  You just have to understand that this is our child who usually shies away from anyone in scrubs.  Evie in the twilight zone…quite the comedian!

So here is the before ………. after.

She spent the rest of the day feeling pretty pitiful and sleeping off the sedation.  The arm braces minimizing mobility to keep her from pulling out the ph probe made her miserable. Her GI said the Endoscopy looked fine.  8 biopsies were taken of her stomach and esophagus.  We should have info from the probe study by Tuesday, so we’re back in “wait and see” mode.  To my “untrained” eye, the numbers didn’t look quite as bad as her last study, so maybe the increased meds are helping.

Here’s hoping

Here We Go Again

Sunday, March 1, 2009

We had a terrific time with my family at the beach. (will post pictures later).

We are home for less than 24 hours to dust the sand out of our shoes and repack suitcases with ski jackets and mittens to send the kids to Grandma’s house. Quite a transition! Snow is forecasted for much of the Southeast for tonight and tomorrow, so Im skipping town:-) C has been out of the country for over two weeks. Im picking him up at the airport tonight (presuming he makes it after the 5 hour delay) and we’re headed to Charleston with Evie – another big day for her at MUSC tomorrow!
An endoscopy will be performed under anesthesia at 7:00 tomorrow morning. This will take pictures and biopsies of her stomach. Afterwards, she will have a second impedance probe threaded into her esophagus to monitor the acid regurgitation for 24 hours. Her last study showed that the reflux was so severe that her GI wants to do a second study to confirm. Pray that she will be tolerant and that the information gained will give us clear direction for how to proceed.

GRACE for Gracie!!

Praying friends,

Precious Gracie is in critical condition and in need of prayer.  She is another sweet-heart baby we have come to love.  Recently she went into heart failure and was listed for a transplant.  After only three days, a precious angel heart was provided for Gracie.  Unfortunately, it did not “take” and has not been working since the transplant.  She has been on life-support for almost a week.  She was a candidate for the Berlin Heart (an artificial heart) which now doctors are saying is not an option for her.  They are questioning if a re-transplant is even a possibility.  They are running out of options, but we have seen God work miracles beyond what is deemed “medically possible” and know that He is able if He desires sweet Gracie to linger.
Its so painful to watch these little ones battling broken hearts.  Please pray for the Gledhill family.
