Peace Offering Packets

Thursday, January 17, 2013
Being the forever optimist that I am, let me just say that there is a nauseas feeling in the pit of my stomach when I think of 36 hours awake on planes and trecking through air ports with 6 kids and 12 bags.  However, as much as Im dreading it, I have the deepest compassion for the poor souls who settle into their seat on the plane with their Starbucks latte and Kindle and turn to see two full rows of kids just to their left.
Admit it.
You’ve done it too….  discretely whispered to the flight attendant and requested a new seat assignment.  Im thinking the sheer volume of Smithlings will have businessmen offering to sell a kidney if they can be moved anywhere – anywhere but within reach of our clan of kids.  Since not everyone will be so fortunate as to be able to cash in a years worth of sky miles to be bumped to first class in escape of our terrors, we thought we’d do our best to win em’ over and hopefully keep a mutiny from breaking out onboard….
Ill credit my sister-in-law Shelby for this idea.  Well, more accurately, Ill throw her under the bus….
Chad was not nearly as amused with the idea as I was when showed him a huge box with 3 dozen “peace offering packets” that we would be carrying on board to pass out to passengers closest to us.
Poor guy.  I think it was at this point that he realized I really was loosing it!!
Katherine my sister was here helping pack last week and we had fun assembling these little gifts.  I had two amazing friends who got on board and made it happen…
Rachel from Evie n Lizzie sewed these darling boutique eye masks…
I thought about keeping one:)  Love em’!!

And Helen from Cakey Bakey sent me an aircraft carrier with 3 dozen individually decorated airplanes. How cute are these?

We inclosed ear plugs too to tune out the guaranteed noise:)

“Peace Offering Packets
We have just said goodbye to our family and are moving overseas with 6 children in tow.  We wanted to extend our apologies in advance for any meltdowns that may occur on this flight in hopes that we will still be in your good graces when we land.  We considered including a small bottle of NyQuil to help make your flight more tolerable, but thought that might be frowned upon by the airline:)
Safe and happy travels ~ the crazy crew beside you”

  • Mandy, You are so sweet! I’m praying that you’re surrounded with compassionate people who know what it is like to travel with little people…and even maybe someone who has moved overseas and knows all the emotions that come with such a huge transition. Lots of love to you and your crew as you settle into your new home!
    Love,
    Becca
