Ole-Timey Sunday Afternoon

Gone are the days of going to the fishing hole with Grandpa and hiking barefoot down a dirt path to Grandma’s house for Sunday lunch. But, we had the next best thing….
My kid’s out-of-town grandparents and great-grandparents, made a 4 hour Sunday afternoon drive to come visit us in our home for the afternoon. It was the first time my grandparents have ever been to our “little house in the big woods”. My mother came laden with a basket full of homemade lasagna, salad and fresh French bread (along with a variety of casseroles and soups to tuck in my freezer for a rainy day:-) We lingered over lunch and my grandparents did their best to recall every embarrassing thing I ever did in my childhood. They took great delight in sharing the stories with my kids and watching my face turn red!
What are grandparents for?
This is the grandpa (you may recall) who inspired the dollhouse saga. I think it blessed his heart to see my girls carrying on the timeless traditions of girlhood with the house he built for me 20-something years ago!
He’s amazing really! WW II Vetran, gardner extrordinaire, fix-anything-man, talented carpenter, relentless jokester, loving husband to my precious Grandma for 70+ years! The man will be 90 this spring….can you believe it? Hoping I’ve inherited some of those ageless genes!
LOVE these pictures…they are beautiful, and soft and have such a timelessness to them. Your children will treasure them someday knowing they had such amazing great grandparents. What a wonderful gift those dollhouses are!

Those look like sweet times. When you said your grandpa was a “relentless jokester” it made me laugh in memory of the spider in my bed (my first one ever) and wondered if he was so fortunate.
