Letter to Evie

Happy Birthday my precious baby.

Two years ago today, daddy and I checked into the hospital for an induction. I was a bit of a wreck. You know how mommy is when she gets set on something! Id carefully researched and drafted our birth plan stating “no induction” but we were tossing that out the window. The first of many rules you would break. At two weeks overdue, ultrasounds indicated the placenta was aging and it could be detrimental for you to remain in the womb any longer.

After the midwife broke my water, daddy and I walked the halls. I drew inspiration from peeking in the newborn nursery and anticipating having my own precious bundle soon! We had chosen a boys name months ago, but still couldn’t agree on a girls name. We each put our favorite names in a hat and drew…..and daddy won. If Id won, you would be Evelyn. (Im so glad you’re not!)

Your birth was amazing and you came out screaming. You were just a tad blue so the nurse put you under a heating lamp at my bedside with a little oxygen. She soon declared you “breathing well” and brought you to me to hold. We marveled at your full head of dark hair and cherubic whopping 9 lbs. of cuteness!

For ten days I got to bond with you, my sweet girl. Nurse you, dress you, bathe you, snuggle you and hold you all through the night. We had no idea the storm that was brewing and Im so glad we didn’t. Those first days were miracles, every one. I look back now and see the strong hand of the Father holding your little heart together. They were days you shouldn’t have been able to breathe. Your heart shouldn’t have been able to keep pumping.

Its been two years since the day we welcomed you to the world. Our lives are forever changed because of you in so many ways! Tonight Im overwhelmed with emotion Evie girl! We’re so glad God gave us such a special gift to love! Happy 2nd Birthday baby girl!

The Lord is my strength,
my shield from every danger.
I trust Him with all my heart.
He helps me,
and my heart is filled with joy.
I burst into songs of thanksgiving.
