Evie’s Pediatrician called me on our way out of town Thursday. The blood work-up and urinalysis had come back. Not good news this time.
Bacteria has grown in the urine culture.
Those who have had urinary tract infections know that they are a beast! Poor baby! Explains why she’s been so miserable recently!
“OK, we can do this” I thought. Treat with an antibiotic and get over it.
“I need to be honest with you” the Dr. said. “This is concerning because we don’t see UTI’s a lot in babies. When we do, we have to ask why”.
There is concern that there could be kidney disfunction which has caused this. Our Pediatrician gave us the green light to go on our family vacation, put Evie on an antibiotic and said she wants to run some tests as soon as we get back next week. She has been a wonderful advocate for Evie and I feel so blessed to have such a Godly, loving woman as our Pediatrician.
There was more hard news…
We talked for a long time and she said she would like to do some genetic screening. When you or I get sick, we work through it and get over it. With Evie, it takes her spiraling down and usually requires oxygen, lasix, steroids and a long time to heal. The Dr. wants to do some screening to look for metabolic and/or possible auto immune disorders.
My poor girl. Next week, I want to be baking Christmas cookies and trying on her angel wings for her little cherub role in the Christmas pageant…. not taking her to be stuck with more needles and poked and prodded. Evie will have a ultrasound of her kidneys and a catheterization procedure next Tuesday. We are trying to get a meeting with the geneticist set up before the end of the year.
Would you again put our little angel in your prayers as God lays her on your heart?
